"Prompts per day" applies to the core prompt generator and the Workshop the same way: answering interview questions is always free and unlimited, no matter how many questions a tool asks. Only finishing an interview (or generating a prompt) counts — that single action uses 1 prompt from your daily quota, whether the interview had 6 questions or 10.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is the free plan really free forever?

Yes. You'll always get 3 prompts per day at no cost. Ads help sustain the free tier. There's no trial period or automatic upgrade on the core prompt generator. The Workshop tools (Character Generation, Story Arc Creation) are the one exception — free accounts get full access for 30 days from sign-up, then need a paid plan to continue.

What is the Workshop?

The Workshop is a set of AI-guided interviews that help you develop your story piece by piece: a Protagonist Generator, an Antagonist Generator, an optional Supporting Cast Generator, a Story Arc Creation tool, and two genre-aware tools — Setting & World Building and Conflict Building. You answer a series of questions at your own pace, with no limit on how many questions a tool asks or how long you take to answer them — going back to change an earlier answer doesn't cost anything either. Only finishing the interview does: that's the single moment Claude synthesizes your answers into a profile, outline, world bible, or conflict breakdown, and it's the same moment 1 prompt is deducted from your daily quota — the same shared quota as the core prompt generator. So a 9-question Story Arc interview and a 6-question Protagonist interview each cost exactly 1 prompt, not 1 per question. The Supporting Cast Generator is the one further exception (see below).

What's the Supporting Cast Generator?

A completely optional tool for building up to 10 supporting characters. For each one, you answer a short interview — their part in the story, whether they're helpful, clumsy, or accidentally useful, and quick archetype checks like "are they the comic relief?" or "are they the muscle?" Any question can be skipped if it doesn't apply. Add as many or as few characters as you like, then generate the whole cast at once — like every other Workshop interview, answering questions is always free; only that one final "generate" step costs a prompt, and it's a single 1-prompt charge for the entire cast, whether you built 1 character or all 10.

How do Setting & World Building and Conflict Building adapt to my genre?

For both tools, you pick your story's genre first, and the interview questions adjust to match. World Building asks about magic systems and creatures for Fantasy, technology and AI for Science Fiction, the source of dread for Horror, the historical period for Historical Fiction, and so on. Conflict Building asks what the conflict is actually fought with — swords and magic for Fantasy, futuristic or psychological weapons for Science Fiction, blackmail and violence for Crime, and so on for all 15+ genres. Both also ask a shared set of foundational questions no matter the genre.

What is the Story Bible?

The Story Bible is where everything you've built in the Workshop comes together. Group your saved protagonist, antagonist, supporting cast, setting, and conflict profiles into one "story," add your own notes to each, and pull it all up any time you're writing. Browsing your saved material and taking notes is free for anyone with Workshop access — no credits required.

How do Story Bible credits work?

Two features in the Story Bible use a separate credit balance: AI-generated outlines/timelines, and the downloadable story checklist (the checklist is otherwise a paid/trial-only feature). Every account gets a 14-day trial with 3 free credits. Starter includes 3 credits/month, Writer includes 10/month, and Author Pro is unlimited. Unused monthly credits don't roll over, but anyone can buy extra credit packs at any time — purchased credits never expire and are only spent after your monthly allowance runs out. Editing your own outline, timeline, or checklist text by hand, and checking off items, is always free.

How does tier verification work?

When you sign in, your account is checked against our user database to confirm your plan. Your daily prompt limit, ad setting, history access, and feature gates are all enforced based on your verified tier. In production this runs server-side — your plan is never client-alterable.

Can I cancel at any time?

Absolutely. Cancel with one click from your account settings. You retain access until the end of the billing period, then revert to free.

What does "advanced AI model" on Author Pro mean?

Author Pro uses a higher-tier version of Anthropic's Claude which produces longer, more nuanced prompts and handles unusual custom genre combinations more creatively.

What are custom genres?

Author Pro users can type any genre or combination — "Gothic Romantasy," "Afrofuturist Historical Fiction," "Cozy Solarpunk Mystery" — and the AI generates a prompt tailored specifically to it.
